“A Star in my Hand” by Ice Cream Creatures

The band: Ice Cream Creatures (3 from Austin TX).

The tune: A Star in my Hand (mp3 4:50) from the album “Everything I Touch Turns Into More Touches”. (I love the whole album, not sure which to pick yet.)

“Nice Weather for Ducks” by Lemon Jelly

“I think one of the core values of Lemon Jelly that span through this record is that all genres of music have worth in them; it’s just that 90% of every genre is shit. Let’s face it, 90% of House music is shit, 90% of Garage, or whatever you wanna call it. Punk, Funk music is shit, and 10% is usually great. I mean the proportions vary slightly obviously, but the same is true of chart pop. 90% of chart pop is shit, but 10% of it’s fucking great.” [cite]

The band: Lemon Jelly (two Londoners)

The tune: Nice Weather for Ducks (mp3 6:08) off the 2002 album “Lost Horizons”.

I found this via unfiltered delicious. [poster]

The vocal sample gets old a lot quicker than the rest.

Fred Deakin: the vinyl freak

Nick Franglen: the gear freak is a pun on KY Jelly– the ky domain is for the Cayman Islands (not Kentucky).

“Noam Chomsky Spring Break 2002” by Department of Eagles

The band: Department of Eagles (two 23yo Californians who met at NYU).

The tune: Noam Chomsky Spring Break 2002
(mp3 3:15) off an album called either/both “The Cold Nose” and/or “The Whitey on the Moon UK LP”.

I found this via Said the Gramophone mp3 blog.

The title refers to the band’s roadtrip to break in (unsuccessfully) to NC’s office at MIT, after which the song was written.

Daniel Rossen (aka Iron Chrysalis, vocals and guitars) [bio page]

Fred Nicolaus (aka Butterfly Emerging, beats and samples) [bio page]

More tunes: [mp3s from the band] [RealAud from BBC] [Flash clips from Boomkat] [mp3 clips from label] [Amazon w/clips] [Flash clips at TuneTribe]

I like most of these, but not as much as NCSB2.
